D. Paul Shackelford, Jr., MD, FACOG

East Carolina University, Greenville, N.C.

Dr Shackelford is a native of Eastern North Carolina. He is an alumnus of East Carolina University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in biology. He completed his Medical Degree at Wake Forest University and his post graduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Pennsylvania State University. Following his education, he returned to Greenville. Dr Shackelford has worked continuously in clinical practice and served in various leadership roles on the East Carolina University faculty, and Vidant Medical center, including 10 years as Sr Vice President for Medical Affairs. He holds dual appointments with the East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine as Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Research Professor of Internal Medicine. He is currently leading a community research effort to address the health and socioeconomic challenges faced by members of the community.

Outside of work Dr Shackelford enjoys inshore and offshore fishing, boat restoration, and hold a USCG Captain certification. He also plays bass in a local cover band.
