Honor Doug Erickson’s Legacy This Giving Tuesday
Earlier this year, FGI and The Center for Health Design announced the Douglas S. Erickson Health Care Research Award to honor former FGI CEO Doug Erickson, FASHE, and his visionary leadership in health care design. This prestigious award was established in Doug’s honor to highlight his dedication to advancing health care design by integrating research, evolving practices, and innovative technologies, with a particular focus on the pivotal role of the FGI code documents (commonly known as the Guidelines for Design and Construction).
This award will fund research that directly influences patient outcomes, enhances staff safety, and informs the development of the FGI code documents. In June 2026, FGI and The Center will begin accepting applications from individuals across the public and private sectors who are passionate about health care design. The selected recipient(s) will produce a peer-reviewed manuscript, present their findings at key industry events, and contribute to the revision of the FGI code documents.
Consider making a tax-deductible contribution this Giving Tuesday to ensure the long-term success of the Douglas S. Erickson Health Care Research Award. Your generosity will help shape the future of health and residential care environments.
Introducing FGI’s Newest Associate Editor
This summer, FGI welcomed Laurel Tilot-Jezowski as associate editor, heading up our new series of handbooks to be released concurrently with the 2026 FGI code documents. Laurel is based in Lansing, Michigan, and previously worked in editing and producing content for the state’s premier public policy firm, Public Sector Consultants. In that time, she managed the development and maintenance of robust editorial style guides for Michigan Saves, the nation’s first nonprofit green bank, as well as the Great Lakes Fishery Trust. Outside of this work, her roster of national and international freelance clients spanned fields like children’s literature, environmental justice, and health policy. Welcome to FGI, Laurel!
2026 FGI Code Update
From December 15, 2024, through January 31, 2025, the HGRC will review and vote on comments submitted on the drafts of the 2026 FGI code documents. The committee will finalize revisions next spring, and FGI’s editorial team will prepare the documents for release in early 2026.
We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who took the time to review the drafts and provide thoughtful feedback on the proposed changes. Your contributions are invaluable to the code revision process!
